Happy New Year! We hope all families had a wonderful, restful winter break.

We are excited to share that I will be starting a Grade 3 Leadership Group at our school. This group will provide students with meaningful opportunities to build leadership skills, strengthen their voice, and contribute positively to our school community and culture. Through collaboration, service, and student-led initiatives, our Grade 3 leaders will help foster a welcoming, inclusive, and connected school environment.

Grade 3 students are welcome to apply to be part of the leadership group. All interested students will be asked to complete an intent form and meet one-on-one with Ms. Taylor. Successful applicants will be notified once the selection process is complete. I will meet will all Grade 3 students on Monday January 12th to introduce this initiative.

I look forward to working closely with these students as they grow as leaders and role models within our school.

— Lisa Taylor, Principal

New School Logo

We are excited to share the newly finalized James Short Memorial School logo with our school community.

This logo was thoughtfully designed to reflect who we are and what we value at JSM.

The hands represent care, safety, and our shared responsibility in supporting every child. The growing plant symbolizes learning, curiosity, and the strong foundations we nurture in our early years. The circle reflects belonging, connection, and the strength of our school community.

At James Short Memorial School, learning does not happen in isolation — it begins with relationships and grows through community. This logo captures that belief and will be proudly displayed throughout our school and communications moving forward.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed ideas and feedback throughout this process. We look forward to seeing this symbol become part of our shared school identity.

Where learning begins and community grows.
