Admirable Use of Technology Policy

At James Short Memorial School we will ensure the safety of all students by being SUPER when working with educational technology. This will ensure that we are using digital information and technology resources in a responsible way:

1. Safety

  • Tell your teacher immediately if something on an electronic device makes you feel uncomfortable or is inappropriate
  • Keep your CBE account passwords and other personal information private

2. Understanding

  • Technology will need  to be shared with all students.
  • Use your time wisely when using educational technology during learning time
  • Transport, handle, and use technology with care

3. Purposeful

  • Leave all school equipment so that it is ready to be used by others. 
  • In the school environment, use educational technology that supports learning 

4. Empathy

  • Use appropriate language and communicate respectfully
  • Respect the personal information, property and work of others

5. Respect

  • Caring for a school or personally owned device is the responsibility of the student.
  • Report any problems with technology equipment as soon as you seen them.

Violation of the CBE and James Short Memorial School Admirable Use of Technology Policy

If you do not follow this policy it may result in one or more of the following consequences:

  • Restriction or loss of computer privileges
  • Confiscation of personal electronic device which will be returned only to the parent
  • Letter home; and/or
  • School based disciplinary consequences

Student and Parent Acknowledgement 

Students at James Short Memorial are expected to be responsible digital citizens who demonstrate exemplary character through an understanding of personal and civic responsibility. Any violation of the above expectations may result in disciplinary measures.

Digital citizenship is about using technology and participating in digital environments. It is key to helping our students learn to use available technology responsibly in the classroom and beyond. Our school has a Digital Citizenship Plan that is updated annually, addressing how we work to build a community where we live and work together as digital citizens.

Personal Mobile Devices

Student personal mobile devices are limited or restricted at all schools, unless required for health or medical needs, to support specialized learning needs, and for educational purposes. Learn more about our BYOD (bring your own device) rules.

Web Filtering & Social Media

Inappropriate or unsafe content may be blocked to provide a safe environment: some content is blocked for all users, and other content may be suitable for older students but not for younger ones. Student access to known social media platforms is blocked on school networks and school devices for all grade levels.
