Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.​ ​​​​

Traffic Safety Reminders from The City of Calgary​

The City wants to remind and encourage anyone who is driving children to school to operate their vehicles safely and responsibly. Parents and guardians are reminded not to park where it’s prohibited during drop off and pick up times, such as blocking crosswalks, laneways and private driveways.

Pick up and drop off times can get quite busy. Give yourself extra time to navigate safely around schools, whether you are walking, wheeling, or driving. For those who drive, help alleviate congestion by parking a block or two away and walking in, wherever possible. 

Talk to your kids about safe travel practices like using crosswalks with patrols, looking all ways before crossing the street and not jaywalking across the roadways as a shortcut.

Parking Lot and Bus Zone are Off Limits

Thank you for supporting us in creating a safe and courteous environment for our students, their families and our community.

To ensure student safety around the school and when loading buses, we ask that you do not park in the school parking lot or in the bus zone. The bus zone runs from the Calgary Transit Bus Stop to the driveway of the school. In addition, please do not drop off children in the parking lot. The parking lot is reserved for staff only and parents are not permitted to park in it.

Calgary Transit drivers have requested that there is no parking in front of the bus shelter so they can pick up passengers safely. 

End-of-Day Dismissal Procedures

During dismissal, all students require support in connecting safely with their parents or caregivers. For student safety, please do not take your child from the dismissal area before the teacher has seen and confirmed that the child has connected with their parent or caregiver. Creating space around the exits helps teachers efficiently and safely connect every child with the appropriate adult. 

We ask families to:

  1. Allow space near dismissal doors for students to exit the building. Please stand back from the door
  2. Stand in a designated location where both your child and their teacher can easily identify you.

As we begin the school year, teachers will escort their classes to their designated dismissal doors to help students learn routines and ensure a smooth transition at the end of the day. Once students are familiar with dismissal procedures, we will gradually move toward a system where students in Grade 1-3 are dismissed independently and meet their families at a pre-arranged location outside the school.

We are also teaching students an important safety routine: If their parent or caregiver is not present at dismissal time, they should immediately find a teacher. Staff will then escort the students to the office, where they can safely wait to be picked up.

Because teachers are not on supervision after dismissal, we ask families to:

  1. Arrive on time for pick-up at 3:40 PM
  2. Call the school at 403-777-8170 if you know you will be delayed and will not be able to meet your child.
  3. Ensure children understand their after-school plan and do not make any changes without your permission.
